How to Clean Salt Lamps
Determining what type of salt lamp you have
The method on how to clean your salt lamps can depend on the type of salt lamp you have. You will either have one of two types:
- Detachable globe
- Attached globe
In some cheaper salt lamps the globe cannot be detached. Which will mean you will have to use a different method to clean these types of salt lamps. Most of the time though you can remove the globe from the salt lamp so we will cover this method first.
Step by step on how to clean salt lamps
Dishwasher method
People have actually done this. They’ve put their salt lamp in a dishwasher to clean it. Do not do this, your salt lamp will be gone when you open the dishwasher.
Bucket method
You want to fill a bucket with cold water. It needs to be cold so the salt does not dissolve into the water. Dunk the salt lamp into the bucket and just clean it with your hands like you’re polishing it for a minute or so. Then remove the lamp from the water to dry, in the sun preferably. Be wary not to leave your salt lamp submerged for too long otherwise it will dissolve. You don’t want your salt lamp to become salt water. You may lose some salt inevitably so don’t over clean your salt lamps.
Wet cloth method
If your salt lamp has electrical components that cannot be removed then you cannot use the bucket method. For this type of lamp we will be using the wet cloth method. Simply get a cloth and make it damp with cold water, then wipe down your lamp until it is clean. Be careful not to get the electrical components wet.
Now you have a clean lamp!
